Purpose of webinars is to train sports officers and coaches: DG sports

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said it’s quite heartening that Sports Department is conducting online courses for the training of Punjab’s tehsil sports officers, coaches, trainers and players even in the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic; he said this while addressing the participants of online courses about Sports Injuries and Doping at National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.

Director Admin Javed Chohan, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Ms Chand Perveen, Assistant Director Raees ur Rehman, IT Incharge Jawadullah and SBP tehsil sports officers, junior and senior coaches, trainers and players from across the province attended the online courses organized under the banner of Youth Affairs and Sports Department Punjab.

On the second and last day, Assistant Prof Orthopaedic Dr Amir Sohail and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr Sajida Fajar delivered lectures on Doping, its Causes and Preventive Measures.

Highlighting the significance of online training webinars and workshops, DG sports said the basic purpose of these online training webinars and workshops is to train our sports officers and coaches. “It is beyond doubt that an expert coach and trainer can play a vital role in improving the performance of a player. He can look after and monitor his players’ health, fitness and performance in a better way,” he elaborates.

He announced to hold more online training webinars and workshops before Eid.

Addressing the participants, Director Admin Javed Chohan said the holding of online training webinars and workshops is definitely a very useful activity especially for the training purpose of our sports officers, junior and senior coaches, trainers and players as well. “These online training webinars and workshops are the best source for knowledge sharing and above all an interaction with competent medical experts”.

Director Admin Javed Chohan further said that the prime objective of these webinars is to polish the skills of our sports officers and coaches. “After gaining valuable training, our sports officers and coaches can play a key role for saving the lives and careers of several athletes,” he added.

Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, on this occasion thanked Assistant Prof Orthopaedic Dr Amir Sohail and Dr Sajida Fajar and all participants for showing keen interest in the 2-day online courses.

During her lecture on Doping, its Causes and Preventive Measures, Rehabilitation Specialist Dr Sajida Fajar threw light on doping test procedure. She informed the participants that Doping Control Personnel can conduct dope tests during and outside any sports competition. “Pakistan has probably fewest doping cases to date while Russia is on top of the list in this regard”.

She also explained the athletes’ rights and responsibilities, doping problems, usage of homoeopathic medicine for doping treatment. “All players and athletes must consult their team doctor and physician before taking any medicine and supplements”.

Dr Sajida Fajar advised all players and athletes to use only those medicines which are permitted by WADA otherwise they could indulge in doping complications.

Dr Amir Sohail thanked Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani and DG sports for conducting online courses about sports injuries, their prevention and doping.

Later, Dr Amir Sohail and Dr Sajida Fajar gave detailed answers to various questions asked by tehsil sports officers, junior and senior coaches, trainers.
