Pakistan calls for countering misuse of digital connectivity at UN

At the United Nations, Pakistan has called for countering the misuse of digital connectivity by criminals and terror groups.

Speaking at a high level debate on Digital Cooperation and Connectivity at the UN General Assembly, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram highlighted diverse digital misuses including by criminals, terror groups and those seeking to sow disinformation, destroy reputations and invade privacy.

The Pakistani envoy said all of this must be countered.

Minister for Science and Technology, Senator Shibli Faraz also addressed the debate virtually.

Ambassador Munir Akram said bridging the digital divide will require investment in both hardware and software.

He said we need to invest in the infrastructure for broadband, the Internet cables and the last mile solutions that are required to connect the world.
